It’s never too late to start camping in Winter! The cold weather is here and for most people camping is the last thing on their mind. Camping equipment gets packed away until Spring and it’s time to hibernate for most. If you are one of those people, then you are missing out. From campfires to less people, there are many reasons to consider camping this winter.

As long as you keep yourself warm and comfortable, you too will see that camping in winter is the best!

Campfires

Ahhhh campfires, the number one reason I love to camp in winter. In summer fire restrictions are in place in many places, so you can’t enjoy campfires.

There’s nothing better than sitting around the campfire with friends drinking, telling stories and keeping warm. Plus campfire cooking is delicious and you can’t forget about how good it is to toast marshmallows!

Avoid the crowds

If you are camping in the southern part of Australia where it’s cold in winter, you will have less people to compete for the best campsites. With fewer people around you will absolutely appreciate the silence and the world seems to slow down even more.

Fewer Insects

Insects, like flies and mosquitoes are often the reason people don’t like camping but in cold weather insects stay away keeping your camping trip bug free.

Cooler in tent or camper trailer

The summer heat in Australia can be harsh making camping unbearable at times, so winter camping can be a blessing. It’s much easier to keep yourself warm in the cold weather than trying to cool down in the heat. Here’s some excellent tips on keeping warm if you choose to camp this winter > Camping in Comfort

Hard floor camper trailers are also an excellent way to keep you off the ground and you’ll find them warmer than tents.

Kick those winter blues

Winter and the lack of sunlight can affect people’s moods, but camping and the outdoors can help you kick those winter blues. Natural light and exercise stimulates the production of serotonin, the hormone that affects your mood. You spend most of your time outdoors when camping and generally are more active, making camping the perfect solution.

If you’ve chosen to brave the cold for the first time do your research and be well prepared and we are sure you will love it just as much as us.

When planning your next camping trip you may wonder how you are going to power some of your essential appliances and accessories? Camping is a time to get away from it all, but these days there are some valuable accessories; such as fridges, camping lights or even your mobile that can make your camping trip more comfortable.

Generators have always been a popular choice for camping enthusiasts but that seems to be changing. Generators require fuel, emit harmful fumes, and often require maintenance. Plus they can be extremely noisy disrupting the peace and tranquility for anyone near them. In fact generators are not allowed in national parks and even some caravan parks ban their use.

That’s where solar power steps in. Portable solar panels kits are ideal for camping and give you flexibility to camp where you want and for how long, without having to use a generator. If you haven’t considered using portable solar panels while camping, then have a quick read of some of the benefits, they may change your mind.

  • Solar power is a renewable carbon neutral source of clean natural energy, making them environmentally friendly.
  • They are a silent source of power so you and your camping neighbours can continue to enjoy the tranquility while running your appliances.
  • Saves you money as it’s free power from the sun, there are also generally no maintenance costs and you can avoid fees for powered sites.
  • Using solar power can give you greater flexibility when camping as you can camp wherever you want without sacrificing using your appliances.
  • Solar panels are easy to use and convenient solution to power. They are available in portable kits so you can take them camping with you and set them up easily.
  • Having a power source when you are in the middle of nowhere can help keep you safe. If you happened to get lost or there was an emergency, solar power will allow you to use a communication device to get help.

It’s important to think about whether you need power when camping and we understand that it can be quite confusing with all the options now available. We are more than happy to help you work out your energy requirements and find the best solution for you.

One popular kit we recommend is the 120 Watt Monocrystalline Portable Folding Solar Panel Kit from Kamper King, which we currently have in stock. Feel free to visit our showroom at 1421 Main North Rd, Para Hills West or call us on 08 8281 6696.

We all know that Australia can turn the heat up over summer, making camping unbearable at times. Whether you are camping in a caravan, camper trailer or tent, we have put together some tips to help keep you cool while camping this summer.

Find the best position for your campsite

When the temperature is soaring choosing the right campsite is important, as there is a big difference in temperature between direct sun or under shade. Setting your campsite up where it will see the most shade in the afternoon is the best way to keep your tent or camper cool. If you happen to be near water, set your camp up to make the most of the cool breezes coming off the water.

Keep hydrated…Bring plenty of water

When it’s hot, you lose fluid quicker than you would in cooler weather through sweating. So it’s important to keep yourself hydrated and drink plenty of water. This is especially vital if you are camping with kids as they can dehydrate very quickly. If you know the temperature is going to be high during your camping trip pack extra water and consider taking electrolyte drinks or sports drinks. These drinks contain electrolytes, glucose and water, which will rehydrate you quickly.

Wear the right clothing

Wearing the right clothing for hot conditions will help keep you cooler and protect you from the harsh sun. Clothing should be loose fitting so your body heat isn’t trapped and light coloured to reflect the heat. Plus invest in a wide brim hat if you will be spending time directly in the sun.

Ventilation and circulation

Lack of ventilation and air circulation can make the heat seem even more unbearable. Keep the windows open in your tent or camper to keep it ventilated and consider purchasing a 12-volt fan to keep the air circulating. These fans are an inexpensive way to keep you cooler while camping.

You could also splurge and buy yourself a 12-volt portable air conditioner. We recommend a Transcool EC3 portable evaporative air conditioner.

Cool yourself down

There are plenty of ways to help keep yourself and the kids cool in hot weather. If you are lucky enough to be camping near water, take a swim regularly to cool off. You could also set up a blow up pool for the kids under shade to keep them amused and cool throughout the day. We like to keep damp towels either in the esky or freezer, which are then perfect to drape over yourself.

Not being able to sleep at night because of the heat is the worst! So make sure there is plenty of ventilation and sleep with a cold towel across your body. Fans particularly come in handy at night to help you get a good night's sleep.

Staying cool while camping during summer can be a little challenging, but don’t put your camping trip on hold. All it takes is a little planning to help you stay cool and hydrated.

Camping is the best way to escape our hectic lifestyles and get back in touch with nature. Over the years camper trailers have become a popular choice over traditional tent camping or purchasing an expensive RV because of the many benefits they provide. We have put together our top reasons why you should consider buying a camper trailer for your family.

Value for Money

Purchasing a camper trailer is a cost effective alternative to buying a caravan or motorhome however they still provide the safety and features of these RV’s. Plus they are far more economical on fuel! Camper trailers also hold their value, so when it comes time to selling the camper, your initial purchase will have been a good investment.

After the initial outlay of buying your camper, you will find that you spend less when you are on your camping holiday. No need to pay for expensive accommodation and camper trailers come equipped with cooking facilities and great storage so you can prepare your own meals. If you also invest in solar panels, then you will be able to take advantage of the fantastic free campsites around Australia or opt for non-powered camping sites, which are even cheaper!

Take a camper anywhere

Australia has some of the most magical off road destinations to explore and with a camper trailer you can go anywhere your 4WD will take you. Most campers are designed and built to withstand Australia’s rugged off road conditions and being able to safely explore these remote areas is a great reason to buy a camper trailer.

Saves you time and effort

Most camper trailers are easy to set up, so once you get to your destination there is no time wasted. You can arrive on site, push up the roof, and pull out the beds with minimum fuss and effort. All of your gear and equipment will be safely stored inside, and you can use that extra free time to start enjoying your holiday. Also they are much easier to tow than a caravan and you wont need to upgrade your car.

Comforts of home

Compared to tents with a camper trailer you still get to enjoy the benefits of taking your comforts from home without having to tow a large caravan. Campers are surprisingly spacious, with lots of storage, comfortable beds and convenient cooking facilities. They also provide that additional level of security you don’t get when camping with tents.

Holidays should be a time for relaxing with the minimum amount of effort and the maximum amount of enjoyment, so when planning your next holiday, consider buying a camper trailer to make your travels so much easier.

Buying a new camper trailer is a big decision and by doing your research and asking the right questions you can be sure to choose the right one for you. Whilst your budget is often your starting point when looking to buy a camper trailer, it is also important to take a longer term approach and think about what your needs will be in the coming years.

You need to look at what your situation will be; will you have a growing family or will your children become adults and you plan to travel with your partner? The type of holidays you plan to take will also depend on whether you want a camper trailer that is easy to pitch and pack away, or if storage is the most important thing. Once you work out what’s important to you then you are ready to go and look at some campers and find one that suits your family.

As we know it can be quite a daunting process, we have put together some questions to help get you started…

Camper Trailer Specifications:

It's vital to ensure you can safely tow the camper trailer with the car you will be driving. So one of the first questions to ask is the weight of the camper and remember to check the weight when fully loaded, as well as the recommended towing capacity of the tow bar. While you are checking the weight, it’s also a good idea to see if you can easily move the camper trailer by yourself.

If you plan on heading off road with your camper trailer you need to make sure the camper will handle these conditions and check that it has off road capable suspension.

When you are not using your camper trailer you need to store it well. Ask for the measurements of the camper to make sure it will fit in your garage or the area you are planning to store it.

Camper Trailer Storage:

Camping trips should be easy and stress free, so having adequate storage is essential. Depending on how many people you are travelling with or the kinds of camping trips you will be taking, you need to check that you have enough storage space. Is the camper big enough for your requirements and how much can you pack inside it?

Camper Trailer Features:

Spend time exploring the camper trailer to see what features are included and how they work and most importantly ensure that you find it easy to erect and pack up. Some valuable questions to ask are:

  • Is an on board 12 volt AGM battery included in the price, and if so, how is it recharged and roughly how long will the batteries last?
  • What is the capacity of the water tanks and what are the tanks made of?
  • Are the screens midge proof?
  • Are solar panels a standard feature or are they an additional cost?
  • Can you recharge your batteries with the solar panels and an Anderson plug?
  • Does the camper trailer have all terrain tyres?
  • Is an annexe or an awning included in the price?
  • Does the camper trailer come with the receiver to fit your car?

Warranty and After Sales Service:

The service and support you will receive after buying your camper trailer is another important factor to consider. If something goes wrong while you are travelling it will be inconvenient if you have to return the camper to the place of purchase for warranty work. Check what type of warranty is included and ask if the company has representatives in each state authorised to carry out warranty work?

Any professional company will be more than happy to answer your questions and give you time to view the range of camper trailers they have on offer, so that once you decide on the right one for you, you can drive it away feeling confident in your informed choice.
