Our top camping destinations in South Australia

In South Australia, we are lucky to have such beautiful camping spots right at our doorstep. No matter what kind of camping you enjoy, you will be sure to find a perfect camp spot. Whether you want to set your camp up under the stars in the outback, on a beach or in a caravan park, you will be pleased with the choice South Australia has on offer. We are sharing some of our favourite camping destinations, and hopefully this will give you some inspiration to get out and experience more.

Wilpena Pound, Flinders Ranges

Wilpena Pound is located about 5 hours from Adelaide in the Flinders Ranges. This campsite is the perfect place to camp if you are looking to explore the natural rock formation of Wilpena Pound and experience the breathtaking scenery of the Flinders Ranges outback. If you enjoy bushwalking then Wilpena Pound is for you, there are many bushwalking trails available and you will be sure to find one to suit all fitness levels. Marion Bay, Yorke Peninsula

Marion Bay is a small town 300km from Adelaide and is located at the Southern foot of Yorke Peninsula. It is a beautiful location that is surrounded by beaches and cliffs and is the gateway to Innes National Park. Marion Bay has some of the best beaches in Australia and is a popular destination for people who love to fish. Kangaroo Island, SA

Kangaroo Island is the third largest island in Australia and you can get there by ferry from Kingscote, which is about 1.5 hours from Adelaide. Kangaroo Island has so much to offer, with pristine beaches, native bushland, wildlife and an abundance of tourist attractions, there are activities for the whole family to enjoy. This island remains relatively untouched and there are many unspoilt places for the keen camper to experience. There really is so much to do on this island, you wont be disappointed. Mannum, River Murray

Mannum is located only a short drive from Adelaide, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes away. Mannum is located on the Murray River and you can enjoy some of the best cruising waters the Murray has to offer. Mannum is a popular location because it is a short distance from Adelaide with plenty of watersports and native walks to enjoy and experience. Mannum is set on a picturesque river setting with water sports, houseboats, fishing, exploring and dining on offer. Streaky Bay, Eyre Peninsula

Streaky Bay is located on the western side of the Eyre Peninsula and is 720 kilometers from Adelaide. It is a small picturesque town and is one of South Australia’s most scenic ones. There is more than 360km of spectacular coastline on the Great Australian Bight to explore, and is a great place to camp and discover the hinterland region. You will find spectacular beaches, great beach camping sites, surfing, plus an abundance of fishing spots. You are also close to Baird Bay, where you can enjoy an Eco Experience and swim with sea lions and dolphins in their natural environment. Streaky Bay is a must see destination.
